Venture capitalists hit a six-year high for investments in 2007, and some of the region's leading firms are hopeful that a slowdown in the economy won't hamper that momentum in the year to come.
While some are worried about the volatile financial markets, local investors are pointing to new Web tools that feed off already established social networking platforms as one of several hot investment trends in 2008. Investors also say they will be scouting for young companies that are looking to build on the success of Apple's iPhone -- technology giving users a complete computing system in the palm of their hands.
Venture capitalists also anticipate putting cash into "green" technology companies, the financial services sector and the life sciences industry.
